All Students pursuing an Associate Degree, an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS), must complete General Education requirements in addition to coursework in their major or area of emphasis.
At Moorpark College, there are two General Education patterns available, including the Moorpark College General Education (MC GE) and Cal-GETC. The MC GE pattern is available and most appropriate for students who are planning to obtain an Associate in Arts in General Studies with an Area of Emphasis or an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree in a specific major. The MC GE pattern is NOT appropriate for students planning to transfer to a 4-year institution to obtain their bachelor's degree. The major and/or transfer path a student is pursuing will dictate the choices available to the student.
Again, the MC GE GE pattern is not designed to prepare students for transfer and does not apply to the Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT), UC Transfer Pathways (UCTP) Degrees. The Cal-GETC is best for the ADTs and UCTP degrees.
Students planning to obtain an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) Degree and have selected to use this local GE (instead of the Cal-GETC) pattern must complete the pattern in its entirety (Areas 1-7).
