Dance, Associate in Arts
The Ventura College Associate Degree in Dance offers students the choice of an emphasis in Performance or Composition. The Performance Emphasis is designed for those seeking a formal course of study in Dance Performance and includes a structured progression of courses in technique, history, and composition. The Composition Emphasis caters to students interested in Dance Composition, featuring coursework in technique, history, and composition. Both emphases aim to develop skills in communication, critical thinking, and self-expression, equipping students to pursue academic dance studies, professional careers in dance, and other related fields. Upon completing the degree, students will be prepared to transfer to a baccalaureate program to continue their education.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Analyze and effectively practice the ways the body is organized in relationship to multiple dance genres and somatic practices.
- Develop and demonstrate current methods and relevant strategies necessary to further their academic dance pursuits, their professional careers in dance and dance-related fields.
- Demonstrate oral and written knowledge of cultural, historical and theoretical perspectives on dance.
- Evaluate and demonstrate comprehensive compositional, pedagogical and technical skills.
- Describe, analyze, and interpret diverse artistic dance works.
- Demonstrate and analyze functional anatomical knowledge in relationship to different dance genres.
