HS V10 Certified Nurse Assistant 6 Units

In-Class Hours: 61.25 lecture, 131.25 laboratory
Enrollment Limitations: Criminal background clearance. Current CPR certification for health care provider (American Heart Association) or professional rescuer (American Red Cross). Drug and alcohol clearance. Fingerprint clearance. Proof of freedom from and immunity to communicable diseases. No acrylic or long nails in clinical settings. Current negative TB test or chest x-ray. Physical examination demonstrating general good health. No visible tattoos or visible body piercings except single studs in earlobes.

This course will prepare the student to apply for certification to practice as a nurse assistant, providing care to clients in a variety of health care settings. Theory presentation will be coordinated with clinical practice in skilled nursing facilities to complete the state required curriculum including topics such as patient rights, interpersonal skills, safety, asepsis, clinical skills, nutrition, rehabilitation, documentation and death and dying. Upon completion of this course with a grade of C or better, the student will be eligible to take the certification exam from the California Department of Public Health.

HS V12 Home Health Aide 2 Units

Enrollment Limitations: Criminal background clearance. Current CNA certification. Current CPR certification for health care provider (American Heart Association) or professional rescuer (American Red Cross). Drug and alcohol clearance. Fingerprint clearance. Proof of freedom from and immunity to communicable diseases. No acrylic or long nails in clinical settings. Current negative TB test or chest x-ray. Physical examination demonstrating general good health. No visible tattoos or visible body piercings except single studs in earlobes.

This course is designed to prepare the student to apply for employment and practice as a nurse assistant/home health aide, providing care to clients in the home or hospice setting who are unable to care for themselves.

HS V96 Work Experience Education in Health Science 1-14 Units
In-Class Hours: 75-300 paid cooperative
Prerequisites: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in HS V10
Advisories/Rec Prep: Students should contact the instructor and review the requirements for units of credit
Enrollment Limitations: Current CPR certification for health care provider (American Heart Association) or professional rescuer (American Red Cross). Fingerprint clearance. No acrylic or long nails in clinical settings. No visible tattoos or visible body piercings except single studs in earlobes. Approval of ADN director; current malpractice insurance; meet all clinical facility requirements.

This course offers students who are employed in the field an opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field of study. Students are accepted as a result of consultation with a designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance of an approved work proposal. Each unit of credit requires 54 hours of employment during the semester. Work Experience Education is available to all students.

Catalog Notes: Students may enroll in up to 14 units of work experience education per semester or term; There is no limit to the number of terms for which a student may enroll in work experience education.
