The Associate in Arts in Fine Art provides fundamental skills in studio and art historical practice. Students will take a minimum of seven required art studio classes, two art history classes, and an additional two classes in an area of concentration.

This program is intended for students who plan to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in a similar major at a California State University campus, a University of California campus, or at a private university or art school. Students who complete this degree are in a more competitive position for admission to four-year programs with selective admissions requirements.

*General Education Requirements:

The calculations above were completed using the local General Education (GE) pattern offered at Ventura College.  Students may, however, choose the GE pattern--local Ventura College GE or CalGETC for transfer--that best aligns with their educational goals.  Please consult with a counselor when selecting the general education pattern that is best for you and when identifying which classes fulfill which general education patterns.  While general alignment exists across institutions, not all classes will fulfill the same requirements for each campus. 

Recommended Elective Courses:

When satisfying degree requirements, students are encouraged to select as their degree electives any course(s) from their chosen List B specialization area not already taken to satisfy the degree.  If all the courses in the List B specialization area have been exhausted in completing other requirements, any List A courses not already taken also serve well as electives for this degree. 

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

• Demonstrate basic drawing skills, color manipulation, and design principles.
• Demonstrate three-dimensional techniques in creating objects in selected areas of emphasis.
• Demonstrates the proper use of the camera and the basic techniques of analog and digital photography in selected areas of emphasis.
• Critically evaluate digital media and graphic communication design and production techniques and their use in selected areas of emphasis.
• Analyze works of art in terms of their historical contexts and social and cultural values.
• Analyze works of film and media, create and edit works of film including narrative and editorial.
