The Associate in Science degree in Film, Television, and Electronic Media Production offers students hands-on experience in camera and lighting, audio production, video editing and media content creation. The course curriculum includes training in cinematography, sound production, screenwriting, digital media production, lighting, digital video editing, motion picture production, and aesthetic film and media courses. Students are required to produce various digital video short projects throughout their study and participate in program and campus media events.

In order to earn an Associate in Science in Film, Television, and Electronic Media Production, students are required to:
- Complete Oxnard College’s General Education requirements to include areas 1-7 or Cal-GETC.
- Complete all required coursework for the Film, Television, and Electronic Media Production major as listed in the Oxnard College catalog with a grade of “C” or better (or a “P”) in each of the courses selected.
- Complete a minimum of 60 degree-applicable units. Students planning to transfer should complete 60 CSU transferable or 60 UC transferable units, depending on their intended transfer destination.
- Complete requirements in scholarship (2.0 minimum cumulative degree-applicable GPA).
- Complete 12 units in residence within the Ventura County Community College District.
Note: While courses in this program are transferable for credit to the CSU, this program was not designed to prepare students for transfer. The Associate in Science in Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer (AS-T) is the recommended program for most students seeking to transfer to a public four-year institution in California (CSU/UC). Students should meet with a college counselor to determine which degree best prepares them for their intended transfer institution or career goal.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Critically discuss artistic and technical choices using industry terminology
- Assemble creative teams to produce engaging content for film, television, and web-based media
- Effectively communicate information and stories to a target audience, applying a general knowledge of visual storytelling and specific technical skills from their area of specialization
- Demonstrate proficiency in post-production technology and techniques
- Design and execute creative ideas from script to completion
- Demonstrate critical thinking, research, and analysis skills to understand the trends, terminology, and technology to thrive in the entertainment industry and accomplish professional and personal goals
- Demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills and the ability to creatively problem-solve throughout the filmmaking process
- Demonstrate knowledge of historical, legal, and ethical issues, theories and concepts in film history and all aspects of film and media production
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge to obtain entry-level professional employment in an area of specialization
