Child and Adolescent Development
Child and Adolescent Development
The Early Childhood Education program offers classes that combine lectures and lab activities. These courses prepare students who are interested in working with young children, including those seeking certification to work in early childcare programs. Students learn to plan educational environments and plan developmentally appropriate activities that enhance children’s emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
A four stage matrix guides career preparation in accordance with California State licensing standards. At Oxnard College, students may complete a certificate program that prepares them for employment as an Assistant Teacher in early childcare programs. Additionally, courses in child development and general education will qualify students to apply as a teacher. An Associate of Science degree with a major in Early Childhood Education is available to prepare students for other career options. Areas of specialization include Diversity, Infant/Toddlers and Special Needs. Stipends for study may be available through grants and programs such as the Teaching Stars.
