Automotive Body and Fender Repair, Associate in Science
The Automotive Body and Fender Repair Associate in Science degree program at Oxnard College prepares students to enter the automotive repair industry as entry-level technicians and provides continuous skills improvement training for employed technicians in the field. The program emphasizes hands-on training in body, fender, collision repair, painting, and automotive graphics so that students have the skills necessary to gain employment in the industry.

In order to earn an Associate in Science in Automotive Body and Fender Repair, students are required to:
- Complete Oxnard College’s General Education requirements to include areas 1-7.
- Complete a minimum of 24 units and all required coursework for the Automotive Body and Fender Repair major as listed in the Oxnard College catalog with a grade of “C” or better (or a “P”) in each of the courses selected.
- Complete a minimum of 60 degree-applicable units.
- Complete requirements in scholarship (2.0 minimum cumulative degree-applicable GPA).
- Complete 12 units in residence within the Ventura County Community College District.
Note: This program is a career education program, not designed to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution/university and while the major courses within the Automotive Body and Fender Repair program in the discipline of "AB" are Associate degree applicable, they are not transferable. Students seeking to transfer will need to complete a total of 60 CSU or UC transferable units, including major preparation courses and general education, which may include the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) depending on their transfer destination. Students who complete Cal-GETC may use it to satisfy the GE requirements of this Associate degree instead of the Oxnard College General Education requirements. Students are encouraged to meet with a college counselor to assist them with their educational planning.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Identify and recognize environmental safety rules and regulations, in the following areas: shop safety, personal safety, hazardous material safety, air bag safety, respirator safety, welding safety, and power tool and equipment safety.
- Demonstrate and classify areas of a vehicle needing repairs, including estimating the costs of repair and formulating proper procedures of repair.
- Demonstrate and recognize steps required to repair vehicles in the auto body industry in the following areas: cosmetic repairs, painting spot repair, painting a panel repair, painting a complete car, non-structural body repairs, structural body repair, and fine detailing of a vehicle
- Identify different types of collision damage and use best practices in selecting the appropriate repair process.
- Develop extensive repair skills through practice to qualify for the certification tests such as ASE and I-Car for the Auto Body and Paint career.
