Art, Associate in Arts
The Associate in Arts program provides students with a curriculum that is preparatory for transfer to most universities and professional schools of art. The Art program allows students to focus in Two Dimensional or Three-Dimensional artwork. The program empowers students with strong fundamental skills and the creation of portfolio level artwork. With a portfolio students can apply to be accepted into high level art colleges.
The AA degree is also designed to help students acquire the skills necessary to directly enter creative art fields. Students develop and grow problem solving skills and analytical skills are that are necessary for careers in the arts. Students are routinely given group project to help them develop the skills needed to work as a team on projects. Students completing this degree will have gained the necessary skills that will allow them to seek employment in ceramics studios, graphics art positions, advertising, prototyping, animation.
To earn an Associate in Arts Degree in Art, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 60 associate degree-applicable semester units. Students planning to transfer should complete 60 CSU transferable or 60 UC transferable units, depending on their intended transfer destination.
- Complete the Moorpark College’s General Education requirements to include Areas 1-7 or the Cal-GETC Pattern. Transfer students should plan to complete the Cal-GETC. All courses for the Cal-GETC must be completed with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete the required coursework for the major as listed in the Moorpark College catalog with a grade of “C” or better (or a “P”) in each of the courses selected.
- Achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better in courses used to satisfy the degree requirements.
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units within the Ventura County Community College District.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- develop strong foundation level art skills in a variety of mediums and techniques.
- demonstrate creative problem-solving, conceptual thinking and critical analysis as learned through direct application and experience.
- demonstrate visual literacy and an understanding of historical and contemporary art, with a sensitivity to the contributions of a variety of cultures.
