Animal Care and Training, Associate in Science
Animal Care and Training (ANCT) classes are open only to students enrolled in the ANCT program by the Application and Enrollment Procedure.
Students who complete the ANCT program will acquire practical knowledge and skills to successfully perform scientific observations, provide appropriate animal husbandry, and apply animal behavior modification to a wide variety of domestic and non-domestic animals to further animal welfare and wildlife conservation. In addition, students will develop skills in critical thinking, communicating effectively, and working as a dynamic team member.
This program offers preparation for students interested in entering the expanded animal care industry. The increasing importance of zoos and wildlife education to the efforts of conservation as well as the use of animals in various entertainment fields present many career options to graduates of this curriculum. Entry-level positions exists in zoos, oceanariums, animal parks, government facilities, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and the entertainment field.
To earn an Associate in Science Degree in Animal Care and Training, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 60 associate degree-applicable semester units. Students planning to transfer should complete 60 CSU transferable or 60 UC transferable units, depending on their intended transfer destination.
- Complete the Moorpark College’s General Education requirements to include Areas 1-7 or the Cal-GETC Pattern. Transfer students should plan to complete the Cal-GETC Pattern. All courses for the Cal-GETC must be completed with a grade of "C" or better
- Complete the required coursework for the major as listed in the Moorpark College catalog with a grade of “C” or better (or a “P”) in each of the courses selected.
- Achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better in courses used to satisfy the degree requirements.
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units within the Ventura County Community College District.
