About General Education

General Education (GE) is one of the required components of all Associate degrees. At Moorpark College, there are three General Education options available for the students to select including the Moorpark College General Education pattern, Cal-GETC, or the GE pattern of the intended transfer institution (including meeting Title 5 minimum requirements). The major and/or transfer path a student is pursuing will dictate the choices available to the student.

Moorpark College General Education Requirements

Moorpark College’s General Education (MC GE) plan is based on Title 5 requirements of the California Educational Code and District policy. This Pattern is not intended to prepare students for transfer and cannot be used with an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT).

Majors at Moorpark College for which students may complete Moorpark College’s GE plan include:

California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC)

The Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum) was developed for use by California Community College (CCC) transfer students and it is the singular lower division general education pathway that meets the academic requirements necessary for transfer admission to the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC) systems. The Cal-GETC pattern is most helpful for students who want to keep their options open before making a final decision on the major and/or transferring institution, including the CSU and UC systems, and many independent, private and out-of-state colleges and universities.

The Cal-GETC pattern is also an option for meeting the general education requirements for the associate in arts and associate in science degree in a specific major, the associate degrees for transfer (ADT), or when using Pattern 3 of the Moorpark College GE for the AA in General Studies degrees.

General Education Pattern of the Intended Transfer Institution

Pattern 2 of General Education is for students transferring to a four-year university in high-unit majors or where completion of the Cal-GETC is not appropriate or advisable. Instead, these students may choose to follow the GE pattern of their intended institution (minimum Title 5, 21 units). This may include students transferring to private universities, out-of-state universities, or UC/CSU campuses within majors that have their own specific GE requirements.

Pattern 3 of General Education is for students planning to transfer to a California public four-year university (CSU or UC) and plan to use the Cal-GETC to fulfill their lower division general education requirements.

Majors at Moorpark College for which the GE Pattern 2 and 3 can be used include:
