Advanced Placement Examinations for Moorpark Programs
Moorpark College faculty has determined passing scores and, when appropriate, certification areas for General Education and course equivalency of Advanced Placement (AP) examinations as provided below.
- students who earn scores of 3, 4 or 5 on the College Board AP Examinations taken before high school graduation will receive credit for each exam as specified in the table below.
- An acceptable AP score equates to 3-semester units for GE certification purposes, except where noted otherwise.
- Students will not receive credit for Standard Level exams.
- Students who have earned credit for an AP exam should not take a comparable college course because credit will not be granted for both.
-
·Credits awarded for AP exams shall not impact a student’s GPA, nor can the units earned be used toward financial aid or the 12 unit residency requirement.
-
Units granted for AP will not be subject to the unit limits for Credit for Prior Learning or Pass/No Pass grading which otherwise apply within the district.
-
Credits awarded for AP exams shall not impact a student’s GPA.

Advanced Placement Examinations for UC Transfer and Cal-GETC
Students who earn scores of 3 or higher on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations will receive credit toward graduation. The individual CSU and UC campus will determine how each AP exam will be awarded and applied in meeting major, elective, and/or graduation requirements. Refer to their catalog, website, and/or ASSIST website for more information.
For transfer students, AP exams can also be used to meet transfer admission subject requirements in English (UC-E), Math (UC-M) and 4 other courses chosen from the humanities (UC- H), behavioral/social sciences (UC-B) and biological/physical sciences (UC-S).
Rules for Using AP Scores Credit for Transfer and Cal-GETC
- A minimum score of 3 is required to grant credit for Cal-GETC certification. Cal-GETC certification does not determine applicability towards meeting program requirements at the receiving institution.
- Students who have earned credit from an AP exam should not take a comparable college course because transfer credit will not be granted for both.
- There is no equivalent AP exam for Cal-GETC Area 1B (Critical Thinking and Composition).
- Students earning a score of 3, 4 or 5 in a Physical or Biological science AP examination earn credit toward Cal-GETC Area 5A (Physical Science) or 5B (Biological Science) and also meet the Cal-GETC 5C (Laboratory) requirement. With this exception, each AP exam may only be applied to one Cal-GETC area.
- Where more than one area of Cal-GETC is possible (cf., 3B or 4) the AP exam may be used in either area (either Cal-GETC Area 3B or Cal-GETC Area 4) regardless of where the certifying CCC’s comparable course is located.
- Generally, an acceptable AP score for Cal-GETC equates to either 3 semester or 4 quarter units for certification purposes.
- An exception is that AP exams in Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, or Physics 2 allow CCC campuses to apply 4 semester or 5 quarter units to Cal-GETC Area 5 certification.
- AP exams in Environmental Science, Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity/Magnetism only allow CCC campuses to apply 3 semester or 4 quarter units to Cal-GETC certification.
7. AP exams that have been discontinued are not shown on the table below. A student with catalog rights may be able to use the now discontinued exam if accepted under the comparable area of IGETC or under Cal-GETC at the time the exam was taken.
8. There is no limit on the number of external exams that can be applied to Cal-GETC. External exams may be used regardless of when the exam was taken.
9. Units granted for AP tests are not counted toward the maximum number of credits required for formal declaration of a major or the maximum number of units a student may accumulate prior to graduation. Students who enter UC with AP credit do not have to declare a major earlier than other students, nor are they required to graduate earlier.
10. Actual AP transfer credit (including possible differences in units to be awarded beyond those used for Cal-GETC certification) awarded for these and other AP exams at admission is determined by the CSU and UC.
- The UC Policy for AP Exams credits
- The CSU system-wide minimums policy governing the use of these and other AP exams for awarding general education.
